One Christmas Stocking Done - Maybe

So in December I made a quilt using 12 Days of Christmas and loved it so much I decided to make stockings and a tree skirt with the fabric. Last night I finished the first stocking. I used a tutorial from Cluck Cluck Sew to figure out the lining and the cuff. For some reason it took me about 10 minutes to understand how to attach the cuff. (I am blaming this on the medicine I am on for my sinus infection).

Anyways the stocking is all put together but I think I am going to rip it apart. For the backing a just used a piece of fabric and I think I should have done a quilted backing. The fabric by itself seems so flimsy.

I am going to make the next stocking with the quilted backing and then decide what I should do about this one.

My youngest has claimed this one for himself. The oldest wants half square triangles, so I started cutting those last night.

I have yet to make a decision on the Central Park and Pinwheel quilts. I have started picking out paint samples for the bedroom though. Not sure what look I am going for. Shopping the weekend so hopefully I will make a decision then.

Pinwheel Sampler - 16 blocks done

Here are my 16 blocks from PSIQuilt's Pinwheel Sampler Quilt. Testing it out on my bed to see if I should go with this quilt or the Central Park one shown in my last post. We are an indecisive family. My husband likes this one on the bed or the CP on the wall with neutral bedding. Each boy likes a different quilt. I think I am leaning towards neutral bedding and walls and hanging a quilt behind the bed. Then I can switch quilts out depending on my moods :) I am going on a girls weekend to Chicago next week so I need to make a decision by then to get the bedding and accessories that I need. What to do, what to do.

Double Hourglass Quilt is Done

I finally finished my double hourglass quilt based on the tutorial from Cluck Cluck Sew. http://www.cluckclucksew.com/2009/09/tutorial-double-hourglass-blocks-easy.html
It went together so easy and fast. What took me so long was trying to decide how to quilt it. I wanted to do something besides the meandering. I ran across the double hourglass quilt that Fussy Cut did (http://fussycut.blogspot.com/2010/05/double-hourglass-quilt.html) and decided to do the straight line quilting like she did. Only I did it both ways across the quilt. We plan on using this at ball games and for picnics.

I made all three of these quilts from the 2 jelly rolls that it takes to make the hourglass quilt.

A nice surprise to see that the pattern was stars. Love it.

This is now gracing my kitchen table. Makes me want the snow and cold to be gone and then sun to come out.

I am also working on a Central Park quilt (pattern on Moda Bakeshop). I am trying it out to see if I want to make it king size. I am debating between this pattern and the PSIQuilt Pinwheel Sampler in Verna. I have 8 blocks done. I hope to have the rest complete by next weekend, then I will share them.

Central Park Fabric - Love it!!!!!

My local quilt shop was having a sale this weekend so I treated myself to some yardage of Central Park by Kate Spain. I think she is one of my favorite designers. This fabric looks so beautiful on-line I was so excited to see it in person. The colors are wonderful, the flowers wonderful. I was disappointed that the shop didn't carry any of the animals fabric. I wanted some of that since my mom loves giraffes and it's hard to find giraffe fabric. I am planning on making this quilt http://www.modabakeshop.com/2011/01/geese-in-park.html. I am debating about making this a king size for my bed. I have had Verna sitting on my shelf for the last few months to make the Pinwheel Sampler from PSIQuilt for my bed. Now I have to make a decision on what color I want my bedroom to be.

I have been working on this star quilt from Connecting Threads for the past few weeks. I spent today doing the sashings and borders and now the top is done. Tomorrow I need to get batting and will hopefully start quilting it tomorrow night.
I am using the leftover half square triangles from the flying geese to make this mini quilt. I have seen these all over the blogs and have been wanting to do one. Now to just sew it together.

Iowa Blizzard

Well the blizzard is over. We ended up with almost 15 inches. We had a 5 foot drift in front of our garage with 3-4 foot drifts the whole length of our driveway. Our neighbor came down in his bobcat to dig us out.
A whole day at home and no quilting done yet. I am planning on sending the kids outside and maybe I can get a little sewing done before supper.
I did get my mini Fresh Squeezed quilts washed. I love how crinkly the look.

Hourglass Quilt

I have been busy working on this double hourglass quilt. I used the tutorial from Cluck Cluck Sew. http://www.cluckclucksew.com/2009/09/tutorial-double-hourglass-blocks-easy.html

It went together really fast. Now I just have to bind it. I used a Fresh Squeezed jelly roll. I plan on using this as my picnic quilt. With the scraps I made two smaller quilts (those are done and bound).

Once it is all bound and washed. I will show you all three quilts.

They both wanted Star Wars. I had painted the farm mural 3 years ago. It was really hard to decide to paint over it but it needed to be done. They were putting so much stuff on their walls.

Here is my living room. Not sure if I like it yet.
